City's legion of attackers were forced to sit this weekend as their match against West Ham was postponed...yet we must include Mahrez in the top 10 quite simply because: he deserves a spot.
Although City are without Leroy Sane, Mahrez has still been cast aside at random moments in the campaign, usually coinciding with poor City performances (on the bench and unused during the 3-1 loss to Liverpool and the 1-1 draw vs Shaktar); however Pep's manic lineup changes and rotations haven't affected the Algerian negatively...he's taken the rejection and shown Guardiola just what he can offer:
While only seeing the field in 56% of EPL matches, Mahrez is still responsible for 19 direct goal contributions: 7 goals, 7 assists and 5 UDGC, while ranking second in overall assists behind Kevin De Bruyne, and following only strikers Aguero, Jesus and Raheem Sterling in the goalscoring department.
If Pep wants to get through Real Madrid's rugged defensive shell, Riyad Mahrez must start on the wing, lest the Citizens be subject to another early UCL exit

Alberto registered another 4 chances created and his 2nd uncredited direct goal contribution of the campaign settled matters in the 1-0 bruiser vs Parma.
Early in the second half, Alberto set up Adam Marusic's goalbound attempt, and though the shot was saved, it came straight to Felipe Caicedo to tap in the rebound...a big 3 points for the Roman club.
As Lazio chase Juve and Inter Milan for the Serie A title, Luis Alberto has been their key man for the duration, setting up 14 goals combined from UDGC and his 11 Serie A-leading assists.
Though time has run out for Alberto to make an international mark with Spain, he has plenty of room in Italy to hone his fantastical creative craft...or....he could fit in elsewhere abroad:
Alberto would be the perfect bargain option for Arsenal as they look to replace Mesut Ozil as the #10...although Lazio will do everything they can to hold on to their assistman as long as possible.

The Bond Villain continues to evolve and adapt his game, proving to be one of the most underrated and ill-respected Germans since Bernd Schneider or actor Curd Jurgens.
Muller's performances and numbers are actually more consistent than Miroslav Klose or Lukas Podolski ever were for any club they played for combined...and he's only 30!
Next time you watch Bayern, do yourself a favor and key on Muller: he's one of the smartest moving playmakers or forwards in the game...and he's been doing it for so long we take him for granted.

Alexander-Arnold continues his breathtaking third full campaign in the top flight, amassing double digits in assists before the decade had ended, and featuring in the 3rd most EPL minutes of any outfield player.
TAA transcends his age and all of its cliche labels; the Merseyside-born fullback is so frightening in his versatility, tucking inside to create mismatches in midfield, pushing as high as most wingers up top, and has become so defensively astute he's now solidified himself as the best right back in European football.

Mbappe has rekindled his penchant for a delectable final ball, assisting on 9 occasions, as well as an additional trio of shots his teammates hit off the post, each of the trilogy coming in 3 consecutive matches!
Bizarre!
The Frenchman has been in fine form, delivering goals for PSG at a ridiculous rate which belies his 20 years...if you just watch Sarabia's strike from distance vs Montpellier, it's quite clear Mbappe is now creating goals from almost anything.
Snatching 4 assists and 3 UDGC since December 7th, the World Cup winner can pull it all off: looping crosses for Icardi to smash in (Montpellier 3-1), scintillating combination passing between himself and Neymar, and a fine passing rapport with Cavani and Pablo Sarabia....why on earth don't more realize just how sick the former Monaco man's vastly underrated final ball can be.
While many still lie in disgust at his behavior on the pitch for PSG and the uber-super star persona he's adapting from Neymar's negative influence, Kylian is still steadily improving his game, perhaps not at the pace he once was a year prior, but his attacking qualities continue to elicit chaos within opposition back lines...and not just in Ligue 1.
We expect Mbappe to finally stop mucking about and start pulling out stunning displays left and right in the Champions League Round of 16, only a week away.
With two legs vs the porous defense of BVB coming up in the Round of 16, Kylian should blow the doors off both Assists and Goals categories and finally take PSG to the promised land...or at least to the quarterfinals.

Despite the Brazilian's constant injuries or his ridiculous hair (which increasingly appears as if a Telletubby pissed on his scalp), whenever the languid, sister-obsessed phenom does step on to any pitch, Neymar will always be the most talented on the field at that time...unless he's playing with or against Lionel Messi.
Sure he may be wasting the prime of his career up in those box seats in Paris, he may not be the legendarily productive player we thought he'd become, and no Neymar hasn't won a World Cup or Copa America, yet every time we watch him play there's no ceilings to his game...it's all about whether he'll feel like pushing himself beyond what we've already seen.
We don't merely expect greatness from Neymar, we feel entitled to tricks, flicks and jaw-dropping set piece kicks...in the end, we begin to vilify Neymar when he tries to entertain us.
We can't have it both ways.
Regardless of his improving free kicks or the excitement and expectation of his goalscoring, the Brazilian's best quality has always been his creativity, supernautral powers which were unlocked during his last three years in Barcelona after long sessions with Iniesta, Xavi and Messi.
At any point, in any match, Neymar could, should and has dropped a litany of assists, unspooling chance after chance for his main man Mbappe to feed upon.
The PSG pair have been recklessly good since joining forces in 2018, combining for 29 total goals directly including 10 in 13 appearances during 19/20 already....but what these two can accomplish in the UCL will forever mark their partnership.

Man City's match vs West Ham was postponed due to inclement weather which began reaching dangerous levels, especially concerning wind velocity....De Bruyne, who had a stranglehold over AssistKings Quarterly throughout 2019/2020, must now surrender the top spot to the man who led for most of 2018/2019: Lionel Messi.
I'm serious....this assists race against Messi, rather than anyone's opinion, means so much to De Bruyne that in the coming matches we'll see him rip off as many chances as he can possibly dish.

Firmino has always been unlucky regarding statistics actually depicting the true breadth of his influence upon any Liverpool victory.
He's almost always creating far more than he'll end up being credited for, and Bobby's consistently running the hard, unnecessary miles that constantly remind every goalkeeper in the world their time is running out....but as far as matching the glittering, selfishness of Mo Salah's goals or the crowd pleasing / all-encompassing athleticism of Sadio Mane, Bobby is always behind.
But for anyone watching, Bobby Firmino edges Sadio Mane as the most valuable member of Liverpool's front three and arguably Klopp's most integral piece of all, and his first hat trick of assists in a Reds kit finally told the tale.
Roberto Firmino was spinning magic, not drunkenly behind the wheel, he was sending opposing defenders tossing and turning, clad on their back wearing a face of exhausted dread as the Brazilian torched Southampton for 3 assists.
He set up Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after a side-heel flick, splitting two defenders and allowing Ox too much time and space, the world class midfielder making no mistake. Then, he destroyed Southampton morale when he took a long ball down in stride, rolling a square-ball through another pair of defenders to a wide-open Jordan Henderson, burying the shot into the net.
Firmino even found the time to set Salah up for his 3rd assist, yet it was blown for offside, the Egyptian being off by a millimeter. Later, he'd finish it off in the 90th when he plowed through into the box, receiving a through ball from Mohamed Salah.
Seeing his angle cut down, Firmino pulled the ball back, sending the Southampton defender into the stands, before sliding an un-selfish ball across the face of goal, Salah killing the ball on his first touch and slipping it over the sprawling keeper.
Firmino is high art in suspended animation...a true football beauty...and we are living in an unbelievable time period for futbol: we have Lionel Messi the greatest of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo statistically right behind him, Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Luis Suarez all in one generation...but don't you dare forget about Roberto Firmino.

It was a wild affair between Leverkeusen and Borussia Dortmund, the 4-3 win for Bayer led by Kevin Volland's 2 goals, while Emre Can lasered in a galaso from way deep to answer, it was Jadon Sancho that stole the show once again.
The English teen was already on a tear going into the Christmas break and coming out of it he was even better. Then, seeing a big-time teenaged target man come into the club, a young gun much like himself, has shown the best out of the soon to be Euro 2020 star:
BVB grabbed Salzburg sensation Erling Haaland in the January window and this was another priceless piece of business from BVB's sporting director Michael Zorc. We've seen nothing but heavy amounts of goals and strong attacking impetus from Lucien Favre's stable of attackers:
Thorgan Hazard remains productive but is wildly inconsistent, Julian Brandt will be devastating although his sense of timing is a half second too late when it comes to finishing or the final pass, Pack Alcacer was sold to Villareal for 42 million in the window, and Marco Reus comes back from injury crisis yet again....however, it's Haaland and Sancho's partnership which will be absolutely critical to BVB's success...
Yes, Hummels and Axel Witsel cannot defend set pieces, and they struggle mightily at the back as a unit, but up top, Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland have been delivering so far.
With 10 assists in his last 12 matches, adding another 10 goals, Sancho has been on fire.
In response to going down a goal, Rancho sent in a perfect corner for Mats Hummels to nod home, the gutty teen's delivery equalizing in the Young Gun Derby.
If it weren't for some unidentifiably awful VAR call, a breathtaking piece of play (from the former City youngster and Achraf Hakimi) would've stood as a true testament of Sancho's greatness:
Sancho sprayed the ball wide to Hakimi and then made the extremely intelligent, devastatingly simple run into the center of the box and scraped a fine finish along the ground and into the bottom corner to give BVB a 2-3 lead. Instead, the goal was denied by VAR, though BVB would retake the lead at 2-3 from the miracle of Sancho anyway:
In another moment of majestic brilliance between the British winger and the Moroccan jack-of-all-trades, Hakimi and Sancho met in the middle of the pitch after the Man City youth player back-heeled a pass into the path of Hakimi's run, misdirecting the Leverkeusen midfielder Lars Bender out of his socks. This back-heel freed up Hakimi to shuffle in on goal and lay an easy ball for Raphael Guerreiro to punt against the inside window of the net.
This filthified piece of back-heel delirium gives Jadon Sancho is 2nd official uncredited direct goal contribution of the season. Although Dortmund's defense wouldn't hold up in the end, the English winger rose his stock considerably, notching his 13th Bundesliga assist of the season....with 4 months left...

Lionel Messi, the greatest player of all time, has dodged injuries, Ernesto Valverde's cluelessness, and currently his own board's impotent insanity to lead Barcelona yet again to victory this weekend: but it wasn't his classic goalscoring, riveting free kicks or uncanny, fleet footed runs in on goal:
In the madcap 2-3 victory over Real Betis, Leo proceeded to spellbind us with his stunning passing arsenal and his absolute mastery of the set piece delivery, sending in two chipped-in crosses from free kicks for Clement Lenglet and Sergi Busquets to meet into the net after his disgusting 1st assist, the "Assist of the Year" equalized the match:
It all started at the back when Lenglet played in a risky, but accurate and phenomenally-placed pass into Frenkie De Jong, bypassing a line of press in the process. From there, De Jong sprayed it wide to Messi, hovering around the right wing.
The magic man cuts inside, spots the run of Frenkie bursting into the box, and claps an otherworldly aerial through ball for the Dutchman to run on to and lace into the bottom corner, Messi grabbing his first hat trick of assists since March 12th, 2016 vs Getafe, while Setien and the fans will be elated about the Barca DNA's revival.
During the course of Leo's last 4 matches for Barcelona, he's been directly responsible for 8 of their 10 goals, though the fact he's assisted 6 and scored 2 displays a growing trust and confidence in his teammates around him.
Against Levante a week prior, our main man Leo fooled around and fell in love with laying on the sweet pass, almost dropping a hat trick of assists in a 3 minute period. Messi finished dishing 2 assists for a pair of Ansu Fati goals in only a minute and a half, both coming from sneaky combination play in and around the box, orchestrated and laid on by the insatiable Argentine.
Leo cut in from the right and angled a singular, artistic triumph of a pass through, around or behind seven different defenders and into Fati's goal-bound path.
The way the ball sprayed along the floor like a hovercraft and rolled its way precisely through to Fati's quick feet dancing with time and space: the prodigy couldn't miss.
Only a half a minute later, Messi was cutting inside on to his left again and, after attracting the turn of three defenders, Messi placed the ball carefully and accurately across the carpet to Fati, the winger / forward smashing an ugly shot which was never going anywhere but the goal after the assist from which was birthed.
As if Messi wanted to make us all die a second death, while making sure Levante succumbed to their final straw, in the 34th, a mere a minute and a half following the second Fati goal, Messi sent right back Nelson Semedo through on goal with a ridiculous ball out wide right.
But when Semedo cannoned a close range blast off the post from his wrong foot, Lionel Messi was prevented from a hat trick of assists by the post for the 2nd time this campaign....luckily for the most unlucky G.O.A.T of all time, Leo said "today's the day" when he came on to the pitch on Sunday, the first Barca match since a near fatal car accident for this author.
Leo put on a show, pulling off my favorite (and the most difficult) statistical anomaly of all in futbol: the hat trick of assists.
It will be my dutiful honor to make sure we tally the amount of times Lionel Messi was slightly cheated out of a hat trick of assists by a shot off the post...the numbers are just frightening..but when you actually watch what the man is perpetrating upon defenses, how easy the game comes for him while facing the best of the best.
once again,
