Since his arrival in Europe, the Brazilian has frequently been saddled by claims of incessant back-passing, conservative play and a lack of vision going forward, especially as his Brazil side back-passed teams out of this summer's Copa America.
However, the former Gremio midfielder has thrown a wrench into the Bullshit Machine of even his harshest critics in this young campaign: launching in his first 2 Barcelona goals in quick succession. Both were precise, powerful screamers from outside of the box (adding to Barca's European leading tally of goals from distance).
More than that, Arthur has eclipsed his entire 1st campaign at Camp Nou in 19/20, posting those 2 goals and grabbing 3 assists  (0 goals, 2 assists in 18/19).
Recently, King Arthur assisted Luis Suarez vs Valencia and set up 2 goals in the 4-0 beatdown of Sevilla, playing Ousmane Dembele into space on the left wing, the weight and angle of the assist providing the Frenchman with plenty of time to juke a Sevilla defender out of his boots with his left before pulling it back and scoring on his right.
To follow, the Brazilian grabbed his first career brace of assists when setting up Arturo Vidal with a much-deserved goal (after his recent hard working / ball-winning performances), crossing into the box for Vidal to volley home.
Image result for arthur barcelona               The fact Arthur had to play his way into the Barca midfield (at the beginning of 19/20) points to how useless Ernesto Valverde is as a manager. He was dead wrong not to include him vs Osasuna and Espanyol, losing 6 points in La Liga as a result.
Still, the Brazilian midfielder has done what many overhyped young Barca stars have failed to accomplish: survive and shake off the debut season jitters and improving upon his sophomore campaign.
Currently, he's surpassing any of the tags his haters have limited & labeled him with: a guy who can't penetrate the lines, a guy who can't contribute in the final third, a midfielder who may as well be a defender due to how often he passes side to side....all lies...he's utterly destroyed every single criticism of his play whilst simultaneously evolving as a player.
Without Arthur, Barca doesn't survive Dortmund's counter attacks, they definitely don't come from behind vs Inter and they would've lost against Osasuna and Getafe.
With Arthur, this midfield can beat you in more ways than one: alongside Frenkie De Jong and Busquets, Arthur can patiently wait teams out with the ball, cutting and penetrating at the right times; or we can attack vertically with long diagonals to the fullbacks as well as floating chipped passes over the back line. Then, there's the new "brace yourself" frenetic force Arthur has driven Barca to, showing its glorious, all-out attacking face vs Betis, Valencia and at times vs Sevilla.
Don't forget how blessed the Catalans are to have Arthur's youth and energy when pressing / winning the ball back.
It's this latter attribute which points to Barcelona finally being close to reviving the midfield extravaganza of the Xavi-Iniesta years.
Focus on Arthur next time when watching Barcelona and you'll see a phenomenal talent growing before our eyes.

The Algerian striker assisted his 5th goal in Ligue 1 action, though it wasn't enough to help Monaco ease their way back into league contention.
Outside of the extremely wasteful and undisciplined Aleksandr Golovin, there's very little to excite for Monaco, with Slimani being their only shining hope of relevancy.
Without the bruising, cultured striker, Monaco are looking down the barrel of the relegation zone...and they still might be.

Serge Gnabry has been a destructive, nonstop attacking force ever since he arrived at Bayern, his trajectory skyrocketing along with his rising international profile.
He's become an automatic starter in Niko Kovac's XI, combining with Robert Lewandowski to devastating effect and staking claim to his right wing station over attacking options Coman, Thomas Muller, Perisic and Goretzka.
Simultaneously, the former Arsenal product has established himself as a serial starter for Germany: scoring and assisting 10 of Die Mannschaft's previous 22 goals (6 goals, 1 assist in his last 6 apps.) while topping out at 10 goals & dishing 3 assists in 11 international appearances, adding a goal and an assist vs Argentina.
Image result for serge gnabry              The German wunderkind scored 4 & assisted a 5th out of 7 Bayern goals on Spurs in the Champions League as the Bavarian club ran riot over Pochettino's men.
Gnabry also grabbed a crucial assist in the match, assisting Lewandowski's net throttling effort on the turn, taking a 2-1 lead into halftime.
It wasn't pretty: Corentin Tolisso was robbed of the ball just as he entered the box, but the ball stayed alive in the area with Spurs unable to clear. Tolisso and Gnabry poked a toe into the fray and stole possession back, with Tolisso flicking the ball towards Lewandowski while on the ground, Gnabry accidentally blocking the pass. After this scrum, it appears as if Serge tapped the ball away from a challenge and left it for his Polish striker to take.
The all-around German attacker was featured on our first two AssistKings installments, starting the campaign with 3 quick, filthy assists; and while the Arsenal loyalist proceeds to bury every chance coming his way (as a Sterling-esque winging forward using pace and timely backline-splitting movement), the art of the sexy pass is definitely hanging up in Gnabry's locker, even though the forward and Tolisso will debate just who actually assisted Lewandowski.

As he experiences his first designated season in midfield, Kimmich hasn't been any less prolific in attack.
The differences in midfield and right back are plentiful, yet the versatile young German reverted back to his natural role as if he'd never played out wide, all while utilizing a hybrid positioning learned from his time at right back.
This added skill set has made him (and Bayern) incredibly dangerous and the most under the radar club in world football...until Match Day 2 in London...
Since Munich signed French World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard, Kimmich has seen his midfield spot restored, which provides Manager Niko Kovac with plenty of options in defense and in midfield.
As we've already seen this campaign, Kimmich is Bayern's secret weapon: fully capable of exposing weaknesses out wide while also draining opposition energies in the center of the park, showing off his wild range of intrepid passing and decadent set piece deliveries.
Like a B+ Frenkie De Jong combined with the versatility of Sergi Roberto, Joshua Kimmich has displayed everything any manager in the world could ever demand of a player.
Without Kimmich, the 7-2 evisceration of Spurs doesn't happen.
Image result for joshua kimmich               It was his lightning blast from outside the area which equalized the scoreline after Son-Heung Min opened proceedings early, and Bayern looked shaky: the Bavarian club needed a spark.
After scoring this wondergoal, the expression of pure desire and poise coming from Kimmich excited the traveling fans into a free-for-all screamfest and it definitely pushed his club into the stratosphere.
The match was already out of control: pacey, fiery...a phantasmagoria of firmly violent, as well as artistic, football. Chances were coming from both sides, though it was Kimmich's steady hand that guided Bayern through the early trouble beckoning Neuer's goal.
It seemed Joshua's attacking input would wain as he became accustomed to the grind of midfield, yet he never dipped: remarkably, Kimmich has created more chances than De Bruyne in only a single additional appearance than the Belgian!
Of these 34 chances, the versatile German snatched 2 assists vs Cologne (his 5th multi-assist performance for Bayern), the first coming when Kimmich led a counter through the middle before shuffling the ball forward for the big man to poke home. On the 2nd assist, Kimmich lanced a corner towards the Pole to nod into the net, finally making it 2-0 only minutes into the 2nd half.
With 2 goals combined, Kimmich is rekindling his relationship with Robert Lewandowski (the two combining for 11 goals last campaign) and with Coutinho looking lively, Perisic and Coman offering great wide options just as Thiago Alcantara / Corentin Tolisso boost Kimmich in midfield, the finesse, verve and swagger Bayern Munich have shown thus far is something special to build on in 19/20.
While he's figuring out his proper place in Bayern's midfield (he may already have), the German is all set for an explosive 19/20 that could eclipse his 30+ goal creation in 18/19.

Mahrez resumed his bristling play in the Champions League for Guardiola's City, snatching his 2nd UCL assist in as many games when the Citizens took their time plundering Dynamo Zagreb 2-0.
The score remained 0-0 until the arrival of Raheem Sterling from the bench, the D'yer M'aker Englishman proving to be the X factor which would finally grant City the opener.
Within a minute of his substitution, Sterling had his goal and Mahrez supplied the scathing final ball after a fantastic team move around the Zagreb box.
Image result for man city riyad mahrez sterling               The Algerian
tick-tocked the ball back to Gundogan, the German international finding Spanish conquistador Rodri at the base of the box.
What happened next was pure genius, instilled by Pep Guardiola on the training ground.
Rodri fed a diagonal pass out wide for the streaking Mahrez run, spreading the Zagreb back line. But the run was merely a special preamble to a delicious assist, the winger squaring beautifully across the face of Zagreb's near post, heading for the best poacher in the modern game. Raheem  barnstormed this'n into the goal, finally breaking the deadlock while the world watched and said "wow...that's how damn good Raheem Sterling is??"
It's easy to forget the quiet passassin's (yes, Passassin is a new word) at the other end, but for those fans like us who put a premium on stunning ball movement and exotic creative endevours, a guy like Riyad Mahrez is a breath of fresh air. He's older, yet still young, flashy but fundamentally disciplined,
This was the 3rd assist the Algerian has laid on a plate for the English forward, these two speed merchants forming a fantastic attacking alliance in the absence of Leroy Sane.
However, Mahrez drops in the list due to his anonymous display vs Wolverhampton, City's 2nd Premier League defeat of 2019. Although the former PFA Player of the Year is in fine consistent form, he may not be as elite or productive as Leroy Sane has always been for Manchester City, especially when in conjunction with Raheem Sterling.
It's a good start by Mahrez, but blame for the two Premier League losses (Wolverhampton and Norwich) lay partly at his feet as well.

Dortmund have been a mixed bag of diarrhea-covered candy in 19/20.
Sometimes there's just absolutely no way to predict the outcomes of Dortmund's Bundesliga adventures.
Even as Lucien Favre is trying out a new formation which features jack-of-all-trades Achraf Hakimi playing at left forward, the results have been mired in defensive fragility and an overall lack of discipline which can be frightening to see from such a highly talented side.
Image result for jadon sancho whoscored            Still, even as Dortmund's squad perform well below standards, Jadon Sancho continues to provide the goals for his club to keep pace with Bayern in the title race.
Sancho saved his club's blushes when he assisted for the 5th time in the Bundesliga, setting up teammate Achraf Hakimi for a bizarre, deflected left footed strike after Sancho played a lazy ball that sent the Real Madrid loanee far too wide of goal. However, the versatile Moroccan is on another planet at the moment and cut inside on to his left, leaving Freiburg's captain in the previous century before smashing a helpless shot (looked like it was heading wide) towards goal before the ball ricocheted through a barrage of Freiburg feet and Hakimi's shot crept in. Though they were to surrender an Akanji own goal in the 89th minute to give both sides a point, Dortmund barely escaped with three of their last four matches seeing the identical 2-2 scoreline.
While Dortmund sit at 8th in the Bundesliga table, they're still only 4 points off top spot, not to mention Bayern Munich losing to Hoffenheim keeps the distance between them even tighter.
Every contribution from Sancho, Reus, Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt will be paramount to Dortmund securing their first Bundesliga title since 2011.

              Can you believe it?
              De Bruyne is hurt again.
Since the 3-1 victory over Everton and our last edition of AssistKings, the Belgian magnifico must sit....a horrible thing for fans like us who dig the all-encompassing passmastery and creative brutality of KDB.
Guardiola spoke of perhaps "risking" De Bruyne for the previous loss to Wolverhampton, yet finally someone forced sensibility into Pep's injury recovery mindset.
Image result for kevin de bruyne              If Pep thinks he can handle KDB like Benjamin Mendy (especially when Pep has a massive squad), the man will see his stock dip lower and lower as he allows injuries to blight his post-Barcelona career at Bayern and now City. Selfishly, it will ruin our collective entertainment value and City's hopes of winning numerous titles (not to mention putting his Euro 2020 spot in jeopardy).
Before the injury, the Belgium star was the undisputed AssistKing of August and September, creating 11 goals total for club
(9 assists all comps, 2 UDGC).
Simultaneously, KDB delivered his first ever hat trick of assists for Belgium, creating a penalty and scoring 3 goals himself for club and country in addition to the creative haul.
It's abundantly clear the only thing that'll stop KDB from engineering viciously executed attacking play isn't nasty tackles from defenders or his own "party animal lifestyle" (šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚).

Firmino fooled around and fell in love...with picking out teammates for goals, and this lust for attacking blood has seen  Klopp's technically beautiful Liverpool ascend to an ever-higher platform of entertaining football.
Last season Firmino looked for goal too often, fell flat for stretches while dealing with muscle / eye injuries and a DUI arrest.
Though in 19/20, Liverpool's attacking prowess under Firmino has led to nothing more than a blissful, high octane beginning to Premier League and European competition as they aim for their first repeat in the Champions League since 77/78 and first league title since the year The Stone Roses came out and this author was born.
It's no surprise this Liverpool side are off to the greatest EPL start in club history, but if they're to lift their first ever Premier League trophy in May, Roberto Firmino will need to play a massive part in supplying the chances for Liverpool's duo of selfish wide men (Salah, Firmino).
And he's off to a flying start.
Bobby's already begun proceedings  back heeling a sublime assist vs Newcastle and setting up Mane for a blast off the post against Southampton (among others) yet his wonderful, all-action showing in the Champions League was absolutely filthy.
Yes, Salzburg nearly scored 5 or 6 goals at Anfield (bagging 3), and this performance was an incredible statement from the Austrians, though we knew Liverpool's defense were suspect without Alisson to mask the deficiencies of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez...let alone a tired VVD and two marauding fullbacks leaving their center halves in dire situations.
              What was most shocking?
Just how intensely Roberto Firmino pressed and hounded Salzburg, creating 3 of Liverpool's 4 goals, although his aggressive exploits shouldn't surprise us at this point, the frequency in which he steals posssession in the opposition half is unmistakable.
After only 8 minutes and a turnover in play, Mane sprang through the middle of two Salzburg defenders from the left wing, initiating the give and go move into Bobby's feet. The forward one-touched a reply between a set of beleaguered Red Bull center backs for Mane to trot on to, burying the shot after Mane's skip and Firmino's disgusting pass left the Salzburg defenders in the primordial dust.
His next goal contribution came when he lashed a shot which was parried into Mo Salah's path, the Egyptian relishing an opportunity such as this and making no mistake, handing Firmino his 2nd UDGC. And his final assist came once the score was tied 3-3, his headed pass nodded down towards Salah's feet, the afro'd EPL Golden Boot winner smashing from yards away.
After scoring for his national team in a friendly showdown vs Mane's Senegal, coupled with his 3 goals, 6 assists, 2 uncredited direct goal contributions and setting up 2 shots off the post, Bobby Firmino is on pace for his most productive campaign yet...a very scary proposition for every team across Europe who may lie in the path of Klopp's high flying Reds.

The Moroccan resumed his greatness the second 19/20 began, setting up 3 goals in UCL qualifiers in quick succession to send Ajax into the group stage.
After two matchdays in the UCL, Ziyech already has 2 goals, has cracked 2 shots off of the post, set up a Van De Beek shot cleared from the line and dished an assist...these exploits headlined by his venomous long-range hit vs Valencia.
While continuing his finite form in Europe, he's kept on finishing off opponents in the Eredivisie as well, notching 5 assists including 2 last match vs ADO Den Haag.
Making it seem too easy for the Moroccan, Ziyech cut inside from the right wing and forced a box of four defenders to attend to his threatening movement, refusing to take notice of the loose run from Huuntelaar peeling away, though the Ajax #22 was aware. Just as the defender made the wrong movement towards him, Ziyech fed the ball into the vacated space for the ageless Dutch wonder Klaas-Jan Huuntelaar to throttle into the goal.
His 2nd of the match came when Van De Beek robbed Den Haag of possession in the center circle and set Ziyech free in space to lead a late counter. Ziyech had hit the post earlier in the match and was keen to finish ADO off, and when he saw David Neres busting a gut into the area, he rewarded the lung-busting run with an expertly timed, precisely crafted through ball for the young Brazilian winger to tuck past the hapless keeper.
We're always entertained and impressed by just how good the 26 year old is, but more importantly, we're astounded Hakim is still plying his trade in Amsterdam and not at Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich...but really, the impotent drama that is Real Madrid could use a player with Hakim Ziyech's aggressive attributes...really, any club in the world would be markedly better having him.
But as long as Ajax can hold on to him, the higher their likelihood of contending for major titles...maybe another deep run in the Champions League? We'll see how Ajax do vs Chelsea next.

We had to put Tadic at #1 thanks to his incredibly fast start to 19/20, picking up right where he left off after 18/19's historic Champions League contending escapade.
Grabbing 2 assists vs Valencia and leading Ajax to a comfortable 3-0 victory in the process gave Tadic the top spot over De Bruyne, absent through injury yet again, though his continued excellence across all competitions has been of a highly filthy nature.
The Serbian has been outrageously prolific during his short stint with Ajax: in 72 appearances, Tadic has scored 46 goals and laid on 34 assists, truly Messi-esque numbers. To add to the tally, Dusan has three multi-assist matches so soon in 19/20.
Sure, many could rightfully argue how the extra Champions League qualifying matches and the shambolic level of defending in the Eredivisie allows Tadic and his attacking teammates to pad the stats with gusto, but you'd be a straight up fool to dismiss Dusan Tadic's brilliance.
Not only does he show up constantly for his national side (2 assists vs Portugal last time out), Tadic has destroyed top tier opposition even before his return to the Netherlands.
Image result for dusan tadic hakim ziyech
During his time at Southampton, Tadic ripped Premier League champions  Manchester City apart in a nuclear holocaust of shame when he snapped up 3 official assists and a goal, playing with an evident aggression and chip on his shoulder, dubbing himself "The AssistKing" in a post match interview. Tadic is also one of the only EPL players to post multiple matches of 3+ assists, next to esteemed company (Ryan Giggs and Thierry Henry among them).
Further illustrating this, Dusan Tadic has 4 goals, 6 assists and 2 uncredited direct goal contributions in 11 matches vs Real Madrid, Benfica, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Valencia, losing only twice (2-1 first leg vs Madrid, 3-2  vs Spurs).
Beyond the numbers and on the pitch, Tadic is a ball-skipping passmaster in the final third, ticking the ball along as teammates surround his central position, running on either side...a simple, yet nearly unstoppable tactic (as seen by his touches in the box that gained him a UDGC for Quincy Promes' goal vs Valencia).
Let's also highlight the best assist of the season so far: Tadic's crazy reverse volley-pass for an untraceable Donny Van De Beek run, the Dutchman duly obliging after Tadic received the ball with his back to goal, turned and released from his feet, easily showing eyes in the back of his head with the irresistible timing and skill of the move.
Like NBA power forward Karl Malone posting up and boxing out defenders with his back to the hoop, Tadic receives quick passes into his feet while facing away from goal. We see him either utilize the pace from these sizzling entry passes to flick or touch into space, holds the ball, or braces himself for more physicality to shield possession as Neres and Ziyech complete the triangle on the edge of the opposition box.
What follows is a dizzying display of carnal passing artistry stemming from a group of players driven by a swaggering annoyance with being overlooked, Tadic front and center.
